MIAMI

END OF ARGO
  • Location: Miami, Florida, a vibrant city known for its lively cultural scene, beautiful beaches and as a gateway to the Southern United States.

  • Historical Significance: Miami is a major cultural and economic hub in the southeastern U.S. with a rich history influenced by its diverse communities. Known for its role in trade, tourism and as a melting pot of cultures, the city has grown from a small settlement to a global metropolis. Its strategic location made it an important center for the maritime industry and for international connections.

  • Role in the Expedition: Miami marks the end of the first part of the expedition and the beginning of a new phase. I arrived on March 6th, 2024 at 5:40 AM after a challenging journey across the Gulf Stream. The stop in Miami allowed for rest, self-reflection and preparation for the transition to the second part of the expedition, which will be completed by bike.

  • Conditions: The journey to Miami was challenging. The crossing of the Gulf Stream involved strong currents, rain and adverse weather. The wind was mostly unfavourable and navigating through the night into the bay added further complexity to the journey.

  • Boat: Marnie Kai, Leopard 46 catamaran.

  • Duration of Stay: From March 6th to March 14th, 2024, the stay in Miami allowed for rest, self-reflection and preparation for the transition to the next part of the expedition.

  • Sagitta: The next leg of the expedition begins with the crossing of the U.S. from east to west, this time by bike.
