8th STATE CROSSED DURING SAGITTA
  • Location: Arizona, a state in the southwestern United States known for its dramatic desert landscapes, iconic cacti and rugged mountain ranges, provided a visually striking but challenging segment of the expedition Sagitta.

  • Duration in the State: From April 19th to April 26th, 2024.

  • Historical Background: Arizona is renowned for its Indigenous heritage, the Wild West era and its natural wonders like the Grand Canyon. Its landscapes evoke the classic imagery of the American Southwest.

  • Route Type: The route was primarily on asphalt roads, but the pavement quality was often poor with frequent potholes and uneven surfaces. Some sections included high-traffic roads that posed safety concerns.

  • Environment: The journey showcased quintessential Arizona scenery, including towering cacti with arm-like branches reaching skyward, flat-topped mesa mountains and snow-capped peaks. These striking contrasts highlighted the diversity of the state’s geography.

  • Weather Conditions: Warm desert winds were a constant presence, requiring extra effort to maintain progress. The region’s arid conditions added to the physical demands.

    • Poor road conditions demanded constant vigilance to avoid hazards.

    • Dangerous interactions with motorists on busy routes added a layer of stress.

    • The increased elevation presented challenging climbs that tested endurance.
