HYDRA

Source to Sea
Hydra_2mm.png

HYDRA is a constellation that traces the shape of a water serpent—the longest in the night sky. It embodies the patient and winding force of rivers that carve their way through the land.

Follow the sinuous path from the hidden spring to the open sea and let the current guide you through this new chapter of the expedition.

CHAPTER IV — FROM SOURCE TO SEA

The next stage of my Constellation expedition, Hydra, is an aquatic odyssey—a journey that follows the flow of water from its first trickle to its final embrace with the sea. Unlike Orion, which was an immersion in the vast and untamed wilderness of the mountains, Hydra is a voyage along the arteries of France (some parts in Switzerland), where rivers become my trail and the landscape slowly transforms around each bend.

On July 14, 2025, I will stand at the source of the Doubs in Mouthe, a modest spring hidden among the Jura’s forests. From there, my packraft and my steps will carry me southward, tracing the Doubs for nearly 400 km before merging with the Saône and then the mighty Rhône—three rivers, one current, a single thread of water weaving through 16 départements.

Over 1,000 km, I will drift and paddle, hike and portage, adapting to the shifting moods of the rivers. Rapids, dams, shallows—each obstacle will demand patience and creativity.

Hydra is not just a physical journey—it is a return to the source of my expedition. The mouth of the Rhône, at Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, is where this entire Constellation began under the sail of Argo. By reaching this point again, carried by the flow of the rivers rather than the winds of the sea, I will complete a full circle—a serpentine loop that connects mountains, rivers, and ocean into one fluid line.

This part of the journey is about surrendering to the flow—trusting the water to reveal the hidden veins of the land and the quiet places in between. In the serpent’s slow, meandering path, I hope to find a new way of moving through the world: patient, flexible, always adapting to what lies ahead.

Hydra will be my reminder that adventure is not always a hunt or a conquest—sometimes, it is simply learning to follow the river, to become part of its shape, and to let it lead you, one bend at a time, back home.
